J'ai cueilli pour toi
En bordure d'une plaine
Une fleur si petite
Qu'on la voyait à peine
Mais soudain elle me parle
De devenir le roi
De tout un régiment
De mille et un soldat
Ils n'auront pour épée
Que des gerbes de blé
Et non plus de tambours
On jouera les violons
Pour endormir les loups
Et gêner les faucons
Capitaines et sergeants
Seront chefs d'orchestre
Colonel, patissier
Général, l'hôte en chef
Y seront invités
Toutes les filles du pays
Parées de rubans,
Fleurs et broderies
Et on dansera le jour
Et on dansera la nuit
Jusqu'à ce que s'affaisent
Soldats et troubadours
Oubliant épées
Fusils et tambours
J'ai cueilli pour toi

A flower, so small

Men are no longer warring
It would have died in winter
Had I not picked it for you.
